My Story

I am Hokubo Barista, a name inspired by a small town in Japan that changed the direction of my life.
I spent half a year living and working in a small cafe where I was introduced to hand- drip coffee for the first time. Over time, coffee became a bridge to learning new cultures, meeting strangers and sharing moments (also with little help from Google Translate). When I returned to UK, I felt something was missing. Then Covid arrived, and I lost my hotel job. It taught me that nothing is permanent, and it pushed me to focus on what truly mattered to me.

I invested in coffee courses, read extensively, worked across different cafes to refine my skills and deepen my understanding of the craft. Each experience shaped my approach in how I serve, teach, and connect with others.

Today, I work as a freelance barista and barista trainer, sharing the knowledge and passion that began in a small town in Japan. Every cup I make and every barista I train is rooted in that journey - one built on curiosity, resilience, and the belief that coffee is more than a drink; it's an experience.

If you're looking to elevate your coffee offering, train your team, or create meaningful moments through coffee, I'd love to work with you. Let's connect and build something memorable - one cup at a time.
